I am not sure what kind of family life Friedrich had but I love all the messy and clinging annoying stuff my family does. Sloppy hugs, clinging sticky hands and the repetitive questions my little guy asks constantly. But, apparently Friedrich lived most of his life in a houseful of women so perhaps he was just outnumbered.
But if we jazz this quote up a bit and say it like this….
Family clutter is messy, clinging and of an annoying and repetitive pattern, like bad wallpaper.
Now that is a money quote. ( Insert crazy momma laughter) Because family clutter is messy, it clings to things and it can really be annoying at times. Especially when we wake up to yet another pile of the same clutter we picked a day ago. ‘sigh’
So, yesterday I was thinking, ugh I am not sure if I can do this again. I mean the children are at school so I can’t start having a mommy melt down and force them to pick up their part of the mess and my dear sweet husband is at work and Lord knows he is not going to come home on his lunch break to pick up his stinking socks or his scattered guitar picks.
So I guess it is all me. (blowing mental raspberry) And unless I wanted to sit in the mess, I needed to get on that clutter busting bus and do something about it. Throwing it all away was not an option. We just had Christmas and I am pretty sure my youngest son would noticed if I donated all the toys he has scattered in the living room.
Then I thought a game! I love games, why not play one to get through this mess. Well, to get through it enough so that I can walk the halls and rooms and not feel like a total homemaking failure.
And without further ado, the corniest game for quarters you will ever play.
Clutter Busting Quarter Flip
Game Pieces: 1 quarter
Game will last : 5 – 30 minutes because any more than that you will get bored just like a 4 year old.
Rules- Choose 6 rooms in the house starting with the messiest. You can write them down on a slip of paper in the order you choose.
Flip the quarter: If it lands on heads you pick up 10 pieces of clutter and if it lands on tales you set your timer 5 minutes or turn on your MP3 player for two songs and clutter bust the room you are have chosen. After you finish all 6 rooms the game is over.
Who wins, well you do of course! Because you can take a look around and see the little changes. If you landed on all tails, then the changes will be pretty substantial. But of course each time I flipped I prayed for heads.
This of course can be played with the whole family, but your husband might think you are ready for therapy and your children will lost interest in about 15 minutes. But, hey 15 minutes is better than zero minutes?

I absolutely love this! This would definitely make cleaning more fun. I have a 2 year old who strings his toys all over the place and a 9 month old who is now on the go, so cleaning is what I do quite often. Thanks for making and sharing this game. I actually wrote a Windows PC game called “Clutter” which is half-game half-self-help-book on clutter. (Actually it’s more game…but the Clutter tips are there too…and some people loved them (a lot ignored them and just played the game)).
